hair loss and dander in dog after shampoo

i have a year old (later in the month) male English Mastiff/St.Bernard mix puppy and ever since i had given him a bath with hartz dog shampoo last month he has more recently started losing more then average hair in some spots on this back as well as a lot of dander, and never had dander like this before either, and scratches often, what could this be, should i be worried?

would this be from the doggie shampoo i used on him or could this be a skin disease?

is there anything i can do to help him at home? thank you.

Hi Alyssa
If your dog didn't have any issues like this at all before you used the shampoo, then it's possible that something in that shampoo set up an allergic reaction which has caused the hair loss, over-dry skin and itching.

I'd recommend that you check out my Dog Allergies and Canine Skin Allergies pages, plus the other relevant pages and articles they link to. This will give you a good idea of whether or not that's the problem and how to go about improving the situation.

There are other causes of hair loss, itching and so on and these include other types of allergies (such as a reaction to a dog food ingredient), parasitic conditions such as Mange in dogs, and more. Your veterinarian will be able to diagnose a parasitic problem such as Mange, and also help you deal with allergies if that turns out to be the problem.

Hope you find the information that you need, best of luck... hopefully your dog will be feeling more comfortable soon.

Hair loss and dander

Thank you, and i hope this is just something minor rather then mange! mange is not good at all!!.. thank you so much for your advise!.. But thats not all, if im allowed i would like to ask another question just from here?.. I also have a very pregnant st.bernard english mastiff aswell, and i've read online and heard that they should eat puppy food at the end and after the puppies come, is this a must?.. shes about a week or two from giving birth, and it is her first litter, she is young yet( she will be 2 in dec.) and it was not set up for her to get pregnant.. so im hoping by feeding her her regular adult dog food will be fine for her to be eating, she is eating and digesting it fine, i feed her Purina Pro Plan..i was also wondering, what is the most amount of puppies she could have for a first litter?..is there something i should be doing for her at home that will make her feel more comfortble, instead of making a whelping box, is a nice comfortable doggie bed and blanket, fine?.. if theres anything else that is needed to be known, please do tell me thank you so much! :)
