heavy breathing

why does my 8 week old staffordshire bull terrier puppy breath heavily while he is sleeping?

is this normal?

Hi Malcolm
Most puppies breathe quickly and/or heavily when sleeping. They can even be a bit erratic, almost holding their breath at times.

This is perfectly normal and generally nothing to worry about. Puppies also often whine, cry, 'bark' or twitch/move about when sleeping - also normal.

However if your pup seems sick in any way or has irregular breathing when awake, then a visit to your vet is in order.

Hope this helps. Best of luck with your puppy.
