hi there i am back again!

even though it's not a health related matter but still i would like to know about it!

How come my labrador puppy has the 'incredible ability' to hold his urine(pee) all through the night?

being a 2.5 month old active labrador puppy he pees frequently during the day, specially after a nap, playing, drinking, getting excited or just like that at times.but for the last 4-5 days i have noticed that he could hold his bladder overnight and only pees if taken outside in the middle of the night.i usually restrict water after 11 and take him outside to pee(final round) at 12 just before i go to bed.

i have heard that puppies at this age cannot hold urine for more than 3.5 hours or so.then how come my puppy has the 'incredible ability' to do that all through the night?

please note:
1)he is very active and sleeps, plays, eats, drinks normally
2)i checked out every corner of my room(where he stays) to find no urine at all!
3)i don't keep him in a kennel or crate!

thanks in advance

Hi Jimmy
If you're absolutely certain that your puppy isn't secretly peeing somewhere at night, then you've got a very smart little guy indeed!

Although pups can't hold their urine for more than a couple of hours at a time during the day, generally they can go longer during the night, sometimes even all night. BUT they rarely 'hold it' if they're not crated - your puppy is a rarity.

However, I wouldn't worry about this. As long as he's happy and healthy, just count yourself lucky :o) The fact that you limit his water, and take him out fairly late (midnight) both help, so just keep on doing what you're doing and hopefully your pup will continue to let you sleep through the night.

Best of luck with that cutie!
