I am getting a yorkie puppy, he is 6 weeks. I want to know if it's to soon for him to leave his mom or if its ok.
He is eating puppy food, but he does nurse at least once a day.
Is he ok to come home or do I need to leave him with his mom a little longer?
Hi Susie
It's much better for your puppy if he gets to stay with his momma and littermates until he's 8 weeks old.
That way he gets the maximum health, developmental and social benefits from his canine family. Although he's eating and drinking by himself, he still has lots to learn from his momma.
If a puppy is taken away before 8 weeks old he may experience some behavior issues, such as excessive biting, fearful behavior, aggression and more.
Your puppy is adorable and I'm sure you are very anxious to bring him into your family. But it will be in his best interests to give him 2 more weeks with his doggy 'momma'.
Best of luck with that little cutie!
