how often do puppies poop?

My pups are reaching 4 weeks old, and i was wondering how often they should be pooping. i have only seen them probably about once or twice max a week. is this normal?

while im at it, what is the normal amount of times they will poop in the next few weeks?

Puppies should normally poop at least once a day, if they're having trouble eliminating I would increase their fluid intake as much as possible.

you can soak their dry puppy food in warm water for 15 mins or so, this helps to make the food easier to eat and also gives them a bit more liquid in their diet.

If they're still in with their momma, she may be 'cleaning up' after them by eating their feces. This may sound disgusting to us humans, but it's perfectly normal for dogs!

Some puppies help with this housecleaning and eat their own and their siblings poop too. Most of them outgrow this habit and forget all about it once they leave their canine families.You can find out more about this behavior on my Why Does My Dog Eat Poop page.

It may be that this is happening without you realizing it, and in fact the puppies are pooping quite frequently.

however, if you're worried and they are seeming to be constipated, I'd recommend consulting your veterinarian for advice.
