Injured puppy - bitten by momma dog

3 week old puppy bitten by mother screaming in pain blood intermittently coming out of nose. Local vet said since I haven't been there before that I couldn't use the emergency service.

Veterinary ER Quoted around $600 that had to be paid upon completion of services which I cannot afford. Therefore unable to seek emergency help for puppy.

Hi
I'm so sorry to hear about what is happening with your puppy, but it sounds as though this little one really does need hands-on veterinary help and quickly.

Sometimes the emergency pet hospitals will allow you to set up a payment plan on a big bill like this. If there is more than one pet hospital in your area I would advise checking with them all.

Unfortunately it's impossible for me to tell what could be happening with this little puppy. Depending on how big the momma dog is, and how aggressively she bit him, the damage could be serious. If his nose is bleeding it's possible that she done some internal damage to his head which is obviously not good.

Young puppies do tend to scream and make a lot of noise even when the damage is minor, but that usually stops fairly quickly once the fright is over. If this little one is still crying after 5 or 10 minutes then he probably is hurting.

I'm afraid that apart from cleaning any obvious wounds with antibacterial soap or cleanser and pat them dry gently. Try to comfort this pup by holding him close to you and talking soothingly, but hold him gently because he can't tell you what hurts.

Apart from that there really isn't anything you can do and he needs to be seen by a vet asap, so I'd suggest that you keep calling around until you can find someone who will help.

I wish I could do more, but I wish you the very best of luck and really hope this little guy makes a speedy, and full, recovery.

Hi,
Thank you for your concern and understanding when no one else will. I'm the one with the bitten puppy. I'm still calling aroung around for a good vet. The puppy isn't hollering in pain or bleeding anymore, but she refuses to be around or eat from the mother. I'm going to get some replacement milk for it and try to get it to eat. It just likes to be held and cries whenever its put down. Its too scared to be alone. I guess I would be too. Thank you again for your help.
