Hi my name is laura and i have 2 border collies male and female and she just gave birth to her new puppies.
My question is is it normal for her to only have males because mine gave birth to 5 and they are all male puppies.
Hi Laura
In my own experience, the male:female ratio can vary quite considerably from litter to litter.
I've never had a dog give birth to a little that is all the same sex, but 5 puppies isn't a huge number, so it's quite possible for it to happen.
My dogs have had litters of 6 males and 1 female, or 7 females and 1 male and so on, so I don't think it's anything to be concerned about. As long as the puppies are healthy and strong, all should be well.
You may find the next time she has a litter that is heavily weighted on the side of the girls. There may be a genetic component, but it's not something I've experienced.
Best of luck with your puppies!
