Is there anything I can do at home for my pup, and his swollen eye?

My male 4m, old American bulldog has one eye swollen shut this morning.

Late last night, I thought it might be allergies and gave him 25 mg of Benadryl and he whined when his mouth was opened.

He's not eating and barely drinking.

What can I do, its Thanksgiving and there are no vets open!

Hi
Even during the holidays there should be an emergency veterinary clinic/hospital open somewhere within your area and I strongly recommend that you get your pup to one right away.

It sounds as though he has an infection of some sort, and it's affecting his whole body. He needs a professional examination and treatment, most likely with antibiotics and maybe fluids and even corticosteroids.

Please just find a vet right away and get him help, this isn't a situation you can remedy yourself. Best of luck, hope he makes a full recovery.

I just wanted to thank you for your response. In fact it WAS an infection.
We took him to an emergency vet only to find he had an abscess tooth! He is now in surgery at our regular vet for an extraction. Poor thing, he's only been with us 1 week, and has had a roller coaster of a time.
