kennel training

I want to put my 11 week old german pointer outside in the days, we build a large pen and build a house for her. She has toys and kong out there.

Everytime i put her out in her pen she cries the entire time what do I do??

Hi
Your puppy is still very young, and is adjusting to her new home. All her instincts are telling her to stay close to her 'pack' (that's you) for safety and security. So, it's not surprising that she's crying when you put her in her pen.

However, it's a good idea to get puppies to feel comfortable being apart from you for short periods. It helps to prevent real separation anxiety issues later.

I'd suggest that you start by just putting your pup out in her pen (never during the heat of the day, during bad weather etc.) for 15 minutes or so. Ignore her crying and complaining for that period of time, and pick a moment when she's quiet and/or absorbed in a toy before you go to let her out. You mustn't let her think that her complaining is what engineered her 'release'.

Puppies are creatures of habit, and if you do this every single day, she will soon get used to the routine and stop whining. Then you can gradually increase the amount of time she's outside. But she needs to spend most of her time with you, and not too much time outside alone.

Hope this helps, best of luck with her.
