I woke up this morning and my 9 month old neutered yorkshire terrier is acting odd and not seeming healthy. He repeatedly is rubbing his head on the ground, shaking his head and pawing at his ears more than normal as if he has an ear ache.
He is moving around very stiffly and shaky, mis-stepping a bit more than normal. He sits still and looks more pitiful than normal also, not wanting to play at all which is abnormal.
He still moves some and gets excited for treats and the idea of going on a walk. He is drinking plenty of water and eating some food and treats. Please help!?
Hi Austin
I strongly recommend that you have your pup examined by your vet right away if you think that he may have eaten something he shouldn't or got into anything toxic.
The head shaking and pawing could be signs of an dog allergyof some sort, or an infection or ear mites. The other symptoms though sound more like an illness.
I'm afraid only a vet can make a diagnosis in this sort of situation as it takes a hands-on exam, and possibly some tests to figure out what is wrong.
If your pup is still showing symptoms, or is worse, you need to get him to a veterinarian just as soon as possible. If your own vet isn't open or available, a 24 hour emergency pet hospital would be a good alternative.
I wish you the best of luck and hope your pup is feeling much better soon.
