I have a 3 week old american bulldog that appears to have a large lump in his throat area .
He is still eating and sleeping normal and behaving normal but I am panicking bad, any suggestions as to what it might be?
Hi
If this swelling or lump/s is under the jaw it could be a swollen lymph node. This would indicate infection of some sort, and most likely need antibiotics.
There is a condition commonly called 'puppy strangles' which causes the lymph nodes under the jaw and ears to swell dramatically... hence the name as it looks as though the pup is being strangled. This needs to be treated with antibiotics and often corticosteroids as well.
There are other possibilities too such as a bite or other injury that has become infected, or an insect sting etc. However, only your vet can make an accurate diagnosis so I strongly recommend that you get your puppy to your vet just as soon as you can.
The sooner you get the problem figured out the sooner your pup will be feeling much better. Best of luck, hope he is 100% healthy soon.
