lump on puppy's jaw after getting bitten by other dog

by Jessica

my friends puppy was bitten by her mother, and a day later grew a large swollen lump near its jaw, if it was my puppy i would have gotten it to a vet but it is not, and they just want to put the dog down.

if you know what this could be please answer because anything i find out might lead to saving the life of the puppy. please any ideas will help.
thank you.

Hi Jessica
This is a very sad situation and it makes me both angry and upset!

The most likely problem is swelling and infection where the momma dog's teeth broke the puppy's skin. This is pretty much bound to happen in a bite injury.

However, it's generally easy to treat an infection like that with a round of antibiotics. Not very costly either!

Of course there are other possibilities, and it could be more serious, but I very much doubt it's anything untreatable. People who consider putting a pup to death because of something like this simply shouldn't be allowed to own pets in my opinion.

I hope this poor little puppy manages to get the veterinary help that he needs, and wish you the best of luck with your efforts to help him.
