MINIATURE SCHNAUZER PUPPY GOT STUCK AT BIRTH AND IS NOW OFF-BALANCE

I ADOPTED A MINIATURE SCHNAUZER PUPPY WHO IS 8 WEEKS OLD. SHE GOT STUCK DURING THE BIRTH PROCESS. THE BREEDER PULLED HER OUT BY GRIPPING HER BY THE SHOULDERS ON EITHER SIDE. SHE WASN'T BREATHING WHEN SHE WAS BORN, BUT WAS RESUSCITATED.

THE PUPPY IS FINE IN EVERY WAY, EXCEPT THAT HER BALANCE IS VERY POOR. SHE'LL FALL INTO HER FOOD, INTO HER WATER, AND TRIP OVER HER OWN FEET.

I WANT TO FIND OUT IF HER CONDITION MIGHT IMPROVE IN TIME, AND IF SHE MIGHT BE IN ANY DISCOMFORT.

HER APPETITE IS FINE, SHE LOVES GOING FOR WALKS AND PLAYING WITH MY OTHER DOGS.

Hi Lidia
I'm afraid I'm not a veterinarian and can't answer this question, so I can only recommend that you have your vet examine her and ask him this question.

Depending on what is causing her to have poor balance it may be able to improve with medication or therapy, or even just time, but I am not qualified to make any kind of an assumption on the causes, treatment or prognosis I'm afraid.

The fact that she eats and drinks well, is happy and playful and seems otherwise to be healthy is good news and indicates that she isn't seriously compromised in terms of health. She's a lucky little girl to have found a loving home with a momma who wants to help her in every way she can.

I wish you both lots of luck and hope she grows up big and strong and has a long, happy, healthy life.
