MY 7 week old yorkie has been pooping mucus. Some times by itself, sometimes mixed and other times normal. I feed him puppy chow, but he does not like it. I some times give him oatmeal in the mornings.
Is the mucus a problem?
Hi
Mucus in the stool indicates some sort of irritation in the colon/intestine. Your puppy may be sensitive to an ingredient/ingredients in the food you're using - that could be why he doesn't seem to like it.
It's important to choose a good quality ,a href="http://www.the-puppy-dog-place.com/puppy-kibble.html">Puppy Kibble and to avoid generic/store brands which contain a lot of additives, chemicals, fillers and 'junk'. These are more likely to cause digestive problems and don't provide the quality of nutrition a growing puppy needs.
I'd recommend that you read my Dog Food page and then take a look at the Dog FOod Comparisons page where you can learn how to rate dog food according to the quality of it's ingredients.
If your puppy seems happy and healthy, is active and drinking, eating and eliminating normally, it's unlikely that there is anything too much to worry about. An adjustment in diet may take care of this problem.
If you are concerned in any way, if your puppy seems to be feeling unwell, or the issue doesn't improve I would recommend talking to your veterinarian. Best of luck.
