My 18 mth old german shepherd dog makes circles while urinating and while doing poo. It seems like she has a problem and is in pain.

Can any one tell any thing about this i went to vet and had her xrays as well but he says it is fine with his bones.

Please let me know

Hi Mohit
Unless your german shepherd is showing other signs of pain or distress (other than the circling behavior) when she's eliminating, I wouldn't necessarily assume that she's in pain.

Most dogs will stay in one place while they're peeing or pooping, but some won't! I owned a Rottweiler who would walk around the whole time she was doing her business. She wasn't in pain, or upset, it was just a habit with her and came naturally. As she was healthy otherwise, she lived to a ripe old age of 13 - for a Rottie that is pretty good, so it never did her any harm!

It could be that this circling is simply what comes naturally to your GSD and isn't a sign of illness or anything like that.

However, if she cries or whines or limps or seems to be in pain or distress then that's different and if this is the case I'd definitely take her back to your veterinarian for another check up.

If you feel her legs may be hurting her, but the X-rays don't show any problems, it could be a condition called 'Pano' which affects large breed puppies, although I would have thought she's a little too old to start showing symptoms now. It's generally something they grow out of and no treatment is needed. You can learn more about this here... Panosteitis.

I hope this helps and puts your mind at rest some. Best of luck with your pup.
