My 3 month old boxer puppy was playing with another dog and fell and hurt his leg. He was crying a lot at first but has stopped.
He is still limping a lot when he walks and every now and then he will whine or yelp if I touch it. It just happened today. What should I do?
Hi
Puppies often hurt themselves in the general rough and tumble of play, they're pretty fearless and have no sense of danger!
Usually the crying and limping will only last for an hour, or sometimes a few hours, and will gradually improve. If your pup starts to put weight on his leg without crying, and is improving within an hour or so, chances are no serious damage has been done.
However, if he continues to cry and limp, and won't put weight on that leg for longer than that, I would suggest that you call your veterinarian and ask his advice. He will probably want to take a look at your pups leg to make sure nothing has been broken/fractured/torn etc.
With large breed pups, it's important not to let them exercise excessively or jump from heights of more than 6inches while they are young. Their bones/joint/ligaments are more prone to damage than more moderate/small size dogs in that respect.
Best of luck, hope your pup is running around again soon!
