my 4 month old puppy poopooed blood and rubbed his but on the floor right after

My puppy poopooed blood but it was not diarrhea. It was mushy with a little blood and right after he rubbed his butt.

His behavior is the same as always playful he will still eat, and he has a cough.

Hi Kattie
Blood in his poop is a sign of irritation in his intestines/colon. This could be be due to worms, a change in diet, stress - various different things.

The fact that he rubbed his butt on the floor, could suggest worms, the cough too. But only your veterinarian can really make an accurate diagnosis.

If your puppy hasn't been regularly dewormed, your vet can do this for you and I would strongly suggest that you take your pup for a check up.

Best of luck with him.

my five month old pug zu
by: Anonymous

I have a 5 month old pug zu who is also always dragging her and she also seem to vomit every few days. She eats like a little critter, but is only fed twice per day and is otherwise a very active friendly dog. I took her to the vet several times because sometimes she vomits so much that she gets dehydrated and has to be housed for a few days. They did two x-rays which shows that her instestines is filled with poop. She is still vomiting every few days though so the vet says she may have to have a barim x-ray to see if she has a blockage. All this is causing a lot of money. I hope her problem is soon resolved she had her worm shot and there is no worms in her poop. Any other suggestions?

4 month old with blood in his poop and rubbing his butt on floor
by: Lisa

I recently took my puppy to the vet for the same thing. The blood in the poop and dragging his butt are signs that his anal glands may need to be drained. I called the vet first to ask about it and they said it sounded like that--I took him in and they drained his glands and both the blood and the dragging stopped. I don't know about the cough though. Just thought I would share that.
