My 9 week old puppy keeps trying, without success to urinate. This is happening every 2-3 minutes or so.
She is on the verge of being fully house trained which we were delighted about, but she is squatting everywhere because of the frequency.
She appears to be healthy otherwise and full of her usual bounce. She is a springer/cocker cross.
Hi
It sounds as though your little girl may have a urinary tract infection. This is not terribly unusual and is more often seen in female puppies than males.
It generally causes an intense urge to urinate which comes very frequently, and the pup will often only pass a few drops of urine or none at all many of the times she squats.
This can be easily diagnosed and treated by your veterinarian and usually needs antibiotics to clear up the infection.
In the short term a UTI like this is more uncomfortable and inconvenient than dangerous, but it's very important to get it treated asap as left to progress it can cause more serious problems including kidney issues.
Get your little girl to the vet asap so that she can get any treatment she needs to feel better. Hope this helps. Best of luck with your pup.
