My Angel

by Joyce
(Granby, MO, USA)

I lost my precious little Chihuahua, Tia, at 10 years of age. She was my best friend and the love of my life. After having her in my life for 10 years, I did not feel I could bear life without a little dog in my life. I went to PetSmart on the day the Humane Society was going to be there for Adoption Day, just thinking I wanted to look at the dogs, pet them, etc., as I was grieving for my little Tia girl.

I rounded the corner in the store and there was a little Chihuahua, she grabbed my heart instantly. She was exactly what I wanted. Even though I was not planning to adopt a dog that day, I felt she was the answer to my prayers.

Chica has helped me so much through the grieving process, I honestly do not think I could have made it without her to help me. She had been going through a rough time in her life, too, and we both needed each other. She was skin and bones and had just given birth, but lost all the puppies. I stayed at PetSmart for two hours, just being with her and bonding. I could not take her home that day, as she still had to go to the vet for spaying and shots. I was able to pick her up the next Wednesday.

One month later, she has gained all her weight back and looks and acts wonderful. She is truly my little angel. I cannot describe the wonderful feeling it gave me to save a little dog that needed a home and a family. And what she has given to me is also beyond words. Dogs ask for so little and give so much. I am so thankful for her and for people who work so hard for the pets who need homes.

I carry Tia in my heart every day and give my love and care to Chica every day.
