my chihuahua puppy is acting wierd

by Will
(savannah, Georgia, usa)

Ever since he was born, our little runt, peanut, has been holding his head up... literally looking straight up in the air. It appears as if he is gasping for air.

He is still doing this and he won't eat, We are very worried about him and i can't find anything on the internet to help. I hope you can. What should I do to help him?

Hi Will
I can only strongly recommend that you have Peanut examined by a veterinarian, it sounds as though he may have a problem with his palate or trachea, and only a hands-on professional evaluation can get to the root of his problems.

If this little guy isn't eating and is having difficulty breathing, then he's in serious trouble and I'm afraid there's nothing that you can do yourself to help him. If he has a cleft-palate or some other physical problem like this, he could have inhaled milk and that often leads to pneumonia which needs urgent antibiotic treatment.

Chihuahuas are very tiny, and can get very sick, very fast. You obviously love and care for little Peanut, so please take him to your vet so that you can get him the help he needs. I wish you the very best of luck and hope that he is doing much better soon.
