My dog is very nervous when traveling.

We have a yorkshire and he is 11 months old.

The older he gets the more he dislikes traveling. He has his travel soft travel bag[house} which is his comfort zone with his bed in it.

He shakes, very nervous, anxiety. Is there anything we can do to comfort him and make his travel easier for him????

Hi Kim
Some dogs just never seem to adjust to traveling, let alone like it, and it sounds as though your Yorkie is one of them.

Sometimes regular 'practice' can reduce the anxiety level as the dog becomes more familiar with the travel routine, and lots of praise and a nice treat (afterwards!) can help. However, if your Yorkie travels fairly regularly and yet still gets upset and anxious, you may want to try some of the natural remedies for anxiety in dogs.

There are sedatives that a veterinarian can prescribe, but in my opinion/experience they are like 'using a sledgehammer to crack a nut' in many cases.... more than you need! I'd recommend checking out this page on my site - Dog Separation Anxiety Medication. There are several natural options there that might work.

Another product I would recommend is Canine Lesstress for Dog Anxiety. It's very gentle and really helps reduce the nervousness that makes your dog so upset, without the heavy 'knockout' effect that you see from prescribed sedatives.

I hope this helps, best of luck.
