My dog not as active at 4 months

by Briana

We have a 2 pound 4 months old yorkie.

She is usually playful with her brother but she hasn't been active lately, and we tried giving her water but she doesn't want it.

Hi Briana
Any sudden change like this should be taken seriously as it could mean that she's feeling unwell. Lethargy and loss of appetite (for food or for water) are symptoms of this.

However, it could be something as simple as the fact that she's eaten something she shouldn't - puppies are notorious for this - and if she's up to date with all her puppy shots it hopefully won't be a serious illness.

I'd recommend that you have your vet check her out to make sure that everything is okay as if she doesn't get enough fluids she will get dehydrated quickly. Also tiny dogs like Yorkies can become hypoglycemic (their blood sugar drops too low) if they don't eat regularly.

It could be that something she's swallowed has caused a blockage in her digestive system, or that she'd contracted some kind of canine disease or parasite that needs treatment, so have her examined asap.

Best of luck, hope she's doing much better soon.
