My miniature pinscher walks funny.

Bamby is 7 months old. We got her when she was 5 weeks old. She seems to be healthy but does not like to be picked up. She comes up to us far enough to where she can lick us but she won't let us pick her up.

We love her and want her to know it. Only when we grab her and hugged her will she let us hug her. Bamby walks funny. She walks as if she were shaking her butt. She wags her tail and runs while she moves her bottom part as if it didn't belong to her. She is very happy but very unusual. Why?

Hi Victoria
It sounds as though Bambi is a little nervous or shy, perhaps she's got a bit of an anxious personality altogether.

I'd just encourage her to come to you, using treats if necessary, but don't grab her and pick her up right away if she doesn't want you to. That will deter her from coming to you the next time. She knows you love her and it's best to allow her to come for cuddles in her own time, in her own way.

The walking sounds a bit like the kind of behavior many puppies have, they get a little confused with their emotions and when they get extra-excited they wiggle their whole rear ends.... it's especially noticeable in dogs who have had their tails docked, like Miniature Pinschers.

If you're worried that there's a problem with your puppys' legs/hips or back, then you need to have her examined by a veterinarian as it needs a hands-on exam to get a diagnosis.

Hope this helps, best of luck with your puppy.

Thank you for your comments. I feel better now and I am doing as you say. I thought there might be a problem with Bamby, glad to know that's not so.

Thank you again
