My puppy doesn't bark

We have a new puppy, she is about 10 weeks old now, she is a german shepherd and my husband is concerned because she has not barked once since we got her.

We have had her for about 2 weeks now, should we be concerned?

It's really not that unusual for a puppy not to bark, especially during the adjustment period in a new home and environment.

At 10 weeks old, your puppy hasn't begun to develop her guarding instincts, she's much too young. The only time she would really be likely to bark is in play with other dogs, or even at a cat. If you don't have other dogs with her to play with, she may just not have found the need to be vocal in that way yet.

I doubt very much that there is any physical problem with her bark. You could talk to your vet about your concerns though, it wouldn't hurt, and would probably put your mind at rest.

I'm sure that sooner of later she will 'find her voice'. Best of luck with her.
