My PUG puppy is 8 weeks old. I have bought her home with fleas. Can I bath her in flea treatment ? or is she too young?

I have two other dogs Chinese SHAR PEI and they have NEVER had fleas .. will they catch them from the PUG ?

Hi Tracey
If one dog has fleas, chances are good that the others will get them too. They tend to breed faster in warm weather too, and it's important to treat your puppy as soon as possible.

The best and most effective way to eliminate fleas is to use a topical (or 'spot on') flea preventative such as Frontline Plus. These kinds of medications kill the fleas and are effective for a month. They need to be reapplied every month.

Over the counter flea treatments/collars/shampoos etc. are not very effective and can be dangerous to use on young puppies. You can order Frontline and other similar products online, or get them from your veterinarians' office.

I would also suggest you treat your other dogs as well, and also get a spray or flea 'bomb' (an aerosol can of flea killing chemicals) to use on your home. Wash all the dog bedding etc. in hot water too.

These topical flea treatments are given according to weight, so you'll need to make sure you get the correct dosage for each dog. Using the incorrect dosage can be very dangerous.

Peggy is the cutest thing! Best of luck with her.

Our now 3 year old rotweiler was only 5 weeks home when we brought him home. He was infested with fleas. It was so bad he got enemic (not having enough iron in your blood from all the fleas sucking his blood) which can be a life threatening condition that needed immidiate attention if we were to save his life. So, we went to the pharmacy and got him a bottle of infant liquid vitamins WITH IRON, the kind that has the dropper dispenser. Then, we gave him a bath as gentle as we could in luke warm running water while we comed out all the fleas that were hanging on to him with a death grip.
we had so many fleas everywhere we got a tall glass of hot water to dip the comb in to stun the fleas long enough for you to get them off the comb and place them in between your thumb nails and pop the suckers thats an instant kill. It took about 2 hours doing this because he was so infested. He still had a very few on him though and they multiply very quickly. So we went to our local garden center in the organic section and bought a bag of DICEMACIOUS EARTH (the spelling is wrong) it is pronounced DIE-SEM- AAAY-SHUS. It is of course organic. It is ground up mullusks to such a fine powder it resembles grey baby powder. Put a light coating all over especially on the belly. Do not apply outside because you don't want the wind to get it into anyones eyes or mouth or to inhale it. So don't get it on your puppy's face. Within 24hrs. he did'nt have one flea left on him. You can put in into your carpet, rugs, dog bedding, yard, or anywhere else just remember not on a windy day. It works by slicing and dicing the fleas (because of the microscopic to us) sharp edges of the ground up mullusks. It has no chemicals,no side effects and is safe even on the youngest animals. This saved or dog. Please try it and pass this on to others.
