My PUG puppy is 8 weeks old. I have bought her home with fleas. Can I bath her in flea treatment ? or is she too young?
I have two other dogs Chinese SHAR PEI and they have NEVER had fleas .. will they catch them from the PUG ?
Hi Tracey
If one dog has fleas, chances are good that the others will get them too. They tend to breed faster in warm weather too, and it's important to treat your puppy as soon as possible.
The best and most effective way to eliminate fleas is to use a topical (or 'spot on') flea preventative such as Frontline Plus. These kinds of medications kill the fleas and are effective for a month. They need to be reapplied every month.
Over the counter flea treatments/collars/shampoos etc. are not very effective and can be dangerous to use on young puppies. You can order Frontline and other similar products online, or get them from your veterinarians' office.
I would also suggest you treat your other dogs as well, and also get a spray or flea 'bomb' (an aerosol can of flea killing chemicals) to use on your home. Wash all the dog bedding etc. in hot water too.
These topical flea treatments are given according to weight, so you'll need to make sure you get the correct dosage for each dog. Using the incorrect dosage can be very dangerous.
Peggy is the cutest thing! Best of luck with her.
