My puppy opens and close his eyes rapidly and twitches in his sleep what should I do?

My new 7 week old puppy moves, twitches, whines and his eyes open and close rapidly in his sleep.

My family just got him and we have not yet taken him to the vet.

I'm worried because it's hard to wake him up after. Is he sick?

If this is the only symptom that you see which is making you afraid that your puppy is sick, then I don't think you have anything to worry about.

This twitching, whining, erratic breathing etc. is perfectly normal in young puppies. They do grow out of it as they get older and as long as your puppy is happy, active and seems otherwise healthy then I wouldn't worry about this.

However, he does need to be taken to your vet asap to make sure he's up to date with his puppy shots and he's had the treatment he needs to protect him from puppy worms
