My puppy sits while he eats

My 4 month old chihuahua/jack russell puppy, sits down while he eats and drinks his water.

We try to discourage him from doing this, because we think it's lazy. He's quite capable of standing as he does it all the time. He also takes a mouthful of food and brings it back to his bed, we try to discourage this as well.

Is there any way we can stop him from being this lazy?

This is a pretty common behavior, it's not really lazy as such, just something some dogs do. He may grow out of it, maybe not. Some lie down while they eat too!

I would try to continue to discourage him from taking food to his bed though, as that could get messy.However, all you can do is tell him "no" and take him back to his dish. Perhaps feeding him in a confined space, or another room with the door closed, so he can't get to his bed would help?
