I got her today from a breeder. She is alert, plays well, was hungry and sounded congested while eating. She doesn't act like she feels bad, but her eyes are runny and when she was napping I noticed some snot/mucus around her nose area. She has had DA2PPv on 12/6/08 she was born 10/25/08 she's about 1 lb 5 oz.

Please help. Her breathing sounds clear and I'm confused. Michelle

Thank you so much and God Bless you for helping.

Hi Michelle
Well, it's not normal for a puppy to have discharge from eyes/nose and to sound congested unless she's got an infection of some sort.

Now, it could be something as simple as an upper respiratory tract infection (kind of like the common cold in humans), or it could be signs of kennel cough or other canine illnesses.

The fact that she's playing and eating normally are good signs, and it's important that you make sure she has plenty of water to drink. Fluids are very important to young puppies.

However, I would definitely recommend that you have your veterinarian take a look at her to make a diagnosis. Even an respiratory infection may require antibiotics, and it's vital to get the correct diagnosis and medications quickly if needed. She's a tiny puppy and young pups can get sick very quickly, it's always better to be safe than sorry.

Having had her first vaccinations is a plus, but she is not fully protected until all three sets are complete.

Best of luck, hope she's doing better soon.
