my puppy wont eat

my puppy has lost his appetite and he won't eat or hasn't ate anything for a couple days...he will however drink his water...

what could cause this and what should i do to help him eat?

A lot depends on how old your puppy is and how long you've had him. If he's just joined your family, it could be that he's simply going through the normal 'adjustment' period that puppies experience for the first few days (or week or so) after they leave their canine family.

Many puppies seem to withdraw, become quiet and lose their appetite and interest in things. As long as your pup has periods of happy activity during the day (plays with toys, or you, at times), is drinking, not vomiting or experiencing repeated episodes of diarrhea, then chances are he's not sick.

However, there are several, serious dog illnesses that puppies are susceptible to, and if you think your pup might be sick, is showing any of the symptoms mentioned above, or you're worried in any way, I would strongly suggest contacting your veterinarian. It's always better to be safe than sorry with puppies, they can get sick very quickly.
