ok, i have a toy fox terrier puppy. she is about 11 weeks old. she doesn't want to play with me, the cat or her toys.
she is heaving but not throwing up. she sleeps hours more than normal, i think she is slightly warm, but my mom says otherwise. first time puppy owner. and recently she is taking a disinterest in water or food.
i have a vet appointment new years eve, but it isn't coming fast enough. been about 2 days. any idea what i could be in for?
Hi Corty
It's impossible for me to tell exactly what is going on with your puppy I'm afraid, but it definitely sounds as though she isn't feeling well.
The lethargy, heaving, and loss of appetite/thirst are all indicators of some sort of illness. However, if she's not suffering from repeated diarrhea or vomiting up her food, that is a good sign.
There are several common, contagious dog illnesses that puppies are prone to catching. Some of them, like Parvo are often fatal in young pups.
If a puppy doesn't eat or drink for more than a few hours it can easily become dehydrated, this alone can cause serious health problems. I would strongly suggest that you take your puppy to your veterinarian as soon as possible. Prompt veterinary care is essential when a puppy gets sick.
I wish you the best of luck and hope he's doing much better soon.
