my puppy is 11 weeks old. he's very hot.
he sleeps most of the time.
what should i do?
Hi Jennifer
A puppy's natural body temperature is higher than a humans, so he may not be excessively hot for a dog. You would need to have a veterinarian take his temperature to find out if he's got a fever or not.
Puppies often lose their appetite and sleep a lot during the first few days in a new home. If you've just got him, that could be the reason. If he seems happy and active for periods during the day, is eating and drinking normally, and isn't experiencing vomiting or diarrhea, chances are he's just going through an adjustment period.
However, if you've had him for more than a few days, and this isn't normal behavior for him, I would recommend taking him to the veterinarian right away. It's always better to be safe than sorry with small puppies, they can get very sick, very fast and there are many canine illnesses that they're prone to catching.
I notice he's had his ears cropped. If you had that done recently, it's possible that they've become infected, or he's reacting to the anesthetic etc. Again, I would definitely recommend checking with your vet.
Best of luck with him, he's a handsome boy!
