Just got my new 12 week old puppy today and at first she was fine. But now she is drooling really thick gooey saliva. and i don't know if it's normal or if she is sick?
Hi
Excessive drooling can be caused by anxiety, pain, nausea, over-heating, eating something toxic and so on. In these situations it can also be accompanied by heavy panting.
I'm afraid it's impossible for me to tell which of these is causing your pups' problems. Also, there are certain breeds such as Bulldogs and Mastiffs that are natural 'droolers'.
If she seems active, happy and is eating and drinking normally and having normal bowel movements, chances are the drooling is caused by stress and/or anxiety.
However, if it continues I'd recommend discussing it with your veterinarian to make sure that there's no health issue that needs to be treated. Also take her to the vet right away if she's showing any other signs of illness.
Hope this helps some. Best of luck with your pup.
