Newborn puppies

My puppies are 45 days old. The mother no longer wishes to feed them or even be around them.

They are inside the house due to the cold weather. The mother cries to go outside and basically chooses to stay outside all day.

We call for her to come in but these last few days, she does not want to be with her 4 puppies.

This is natural, the momma has 'done her time' as it were, and she now knows the puppies need to be weaned. She's basically handing them over to you to care for :o)

I would recommend that you begin to introduce them to dry puppy food now. Choose a high quality puppy kibble and soak it in warm water for 10 minutes before offering it to them. This makes it easier for them to chew and digest. They can also start to lap water.

They will likely be very messy at first, but they will soon get the hang of it.
