Organic Dog Food
- what you need to know

black labrador

Feeding your puppy a good, nutritious diet is very important, and organic dog food is becoming increasingly popular as it provides just that.

As dog lovers and puppy parents everywhere are becoming better informed about commercial dog food ingredients and manufacturing processes, they are looking for better, safer alternatives for their precious fur-children.

Since 2006 the purchase of organic dog food has risen by an astonishing 63%!

What is 'organic dog food'?

When a food is labeled 'organic' it means that it's untouched by preservatives, pesticides, hormones or anti-biotics. In the United States, any dog food that claims to be organic, has to meet very strict standards set by the Department of Agriculture.

Although no actual research or long-term studies have been done that prove organic is better, many health professionals believe that it improves a dog's overall health as well as increasing the length and quality of your best friend's life.

Organic dog food tends to contain a higher percentage of grains and also includes organic fruits and vegetables in it's ingredients.

Some manufacturers of this type of food are trying to recreate a diet for your pet that is closer to the type of diet they believe a dog would eat in the wild. They include veggies and fruits as they believe that if a carnivorous dog killed and ate, for example a rabbit, they would also ingest the contents of it's tummy...most likely berries, greens and so on.

What does this mean for Fido?

Although there's no firm, scientific proof that organic dog food is superior, it's logical to believe that ingredients free from harmful chemicals, preservatives etc. are safer and healthier than those that aren't.

Fido could see the following benefits from an organic diet -

  • Better overall health & a longer life

  • By providing superior, quality nutrition this food can improve your puppy's health, giving him a stronger immune system, more energy and a greater zest for life! He could add years to his life, both literally and figuratively. He may 'stay young' for an above average length of time as well as actually increase his life expectancy (by as much as 3 years or more)

  • Maintain a healthier weight
Being overweight, or even obese, is a growing problem for pet dogs today. Illnesses such as diabetes, organ failure and joint problems are just a few of the side effects of a weight problem.

As organic dog food has a higher nutritional value and less fillers than most commercial dog foods it's more satisfying to your pup. This means that little Fido needs less food to be satisfied and isn't weighed down by 'empty' calories from fillers and poor quality ingredients.

  • Easier on his tummy
Top quality ingredients and no artificial chemicals etc. means this type of dog food is easier for your puppy's digestive system to handle. He'll need to eat less, and also need to 'poop' less - good news during the housebreaking stage!

  • Reduces allergies
Many dogs and puppies suffer from skin allergies and problems that can be caused by artificial substances or poor ingredients in their food. The superior ingredients in organic dog food helps Fido's immune system grow strong and may reduce his susceptibility to allergies and infections.

All puppy parents want their fur-children to live long, happy, healthy lives. It may be that organic dog food is a step in the right direction.

Perhaps you'd like to conduct your own little bit of research by starting Fido on an organic diet today and monitoring the results yourself.

There may not be any undeniable proof that it'll make a difference, but with all the uncertainties in the world of commercial dog food today changing over to a diet of organic dog food certainly couldn't hurt!

There are many different excellent brands of organic, natural and holistic dog foods available to choose from. So it's easier than ever to give your little furball a premium, healthy dog food that will set him up for life!
