I have parvo virus in my back yard. Can it be in the rest of the yard as well? Can it be treated?
Hi
Canine Parvovirus is an extremely hardy virus and can survive for years in soil. It's not affected by temperature changes, rain and so on, so it can't be eradicated by snow, heat, rain etc.
It is spread in the feces/vomit of infected animals, and if you had a sick pup who was in your back yard, and also had access to the rest of your property then it could have been spread on his feet/fur, or in his vomit or feces.
The only thing is a solution of chlorine bleach and water. This is more reliably effective on hard surfaces that can be thoroughly cleaned, but you can soak your yard/concrete and so on with the solution and hopefully reduce the contamination. I wouldn't say it's fool-proof though, and there will likely still be risk to unvaccinated animals on your property.
Hope this helps. Best of luck.
