my pit bull puppy has bow legs in the front but is a bit overweight could it be just from this or could it be a possible iron deficiency?
Hi Tracy
It's difficult to say for sure what's causing your pups' legs to be bowed as it could be due to one of several reasons, or a combination of them.
Genetics plays a role in conformation (basically how a pup is 'put together') and it could be that he's inherited this trait from one of his parents.
It's also possible that his diet has played a role. It's important to feed a premium quality puppy food in order for a pup to develop and grow properly. The right balance of nutrients goes a long way towards preventing bone/joint problems. Too much protein (or calcium) can cause abnormalities in growth, as can inadequate nutrition. Putting on too much weight, too quickly, can also contribute.
I'd advise you to take your pup to your veterinarian for a check up so that you can get a professional opinion on what is causing your pups bowed legs, and whether there is anything you can do to improve the situation. A lot will depend on how old your pup is and whether it's 'nature or nurture' that's at the root of the problem. I wouldn't recommend giving him any supplements until you've discussed the situation with your vet.
Hope this helps some, best of luck with your puppy.
