My friend just got a pit bull puppy; he is about 3 months old. He has a large lump on his back over his hips- about the size of a potato. What is this?
Hi Sally
I'm afraid I'm not a veterinarian, so I can't say for sure what is going on here. It sounds as though it may be a sebaceous cyst of some sort, puppies can get these as can older dogs. They're basically 'fatty' lumps and generally aren't serious but if they're large need to be removed. Your vet can do that quite simply.
However, there are other possibilities and only your vet can make an accurate diagnosis, it could be something else entirely and you need a professional veterinary opinion so please have your boyfriends' puppy checked out asap. The quicker you find out what is causing this lump, the easier it will be to fix it up.
Best of luck.
