how long do i let them breastfeed? they seem to not get enough and i don't know when to pull them off of the nipple, or if i should just let them eat away.
HELP!!!
Hi Ashley
There's no need for you to worry about the puppies nursing, the momma knows what's needed.
Newborn puppies nurse almost constantly, just 'falling off' the nipple when they're full. As long as the litter has 8, or less, puppies the momma should be able to feed them all adequately.
If there are more than 8 puppies, or there's a pup who doesn't seem to be able to get enough milk (isn't putting on weight and cries all the time), it may need some supplemental feeding.
I'd recommend checking out my New Born Puppies page, as it has all the tips, advice and information you need.
Best of luck with your puppies.
