Puppy balance and coordination question.

I recently adopted a Jack Russell Pup. She is very out going and playful.

My concern is she is very clumsy and tends to lose her balance quite often. When i rescued her the owner said she was about 6 weeks, however i took her to the vet this morning and he said she looks more developed and is about 8 weeks.

Is it normal for her to lose her balance and wobble or is it something to be concerned about? Thanks ahead of time!

Hi Matt
It's impossible to say for sure if there's a problem, but in my experience most young puppies are clumsy to some degree!

It's often more noticeable in the large and giant breed pups as they seem to take longer to figure out how to control their limbs/speed/direction, but smaller breeds can be wobbly and uncoordinated too.

If your puppy seems happy, healthy and active apart from this, then I doubt there's any real issues. But, it's always better to be safe than sorry so you could mention your concerns to your veterinarian at your pup's next visit. That way you'll be able to put your mind at rest.

You might find this page helpful as it has lots of information on what to expect at each stage as your puppy grows... Puppy Development.

Best of luck with your pup.
