Other than worms, what could be causing my male puppy to be constantly hungry and have many more bowel movements than his litter mates?
He will eat 1/4 cup of food and then poop 2 or 3 times shortly there after and be hungry just a few minutes later.
Please help with any suggestions.
Hi Elizabeth
I'm assuming you've already had him checked/treated for worms, because that would be the obvious cause of this sort of behavior.
If he hasn't got worms, or has been dewormed several times, it could be something to do with his individual digestive system. I'm not sure what breed your puppies are, but small breed dogs have high metabolisms and they 'burn up' their food very quickly. If he's an especially anxious or active puppy he could be using his food up extra fast.
Are his bowel movements firm and 'normal'? If not, it could be that he has an intolerance to some ingredient/s in the food you're using and possibly he isn't actually digesting it properly.
Some breeds are predisposed to conditions that affect how they digest their food.
I would suggest that you talk to your veterinarian about this, as he would probably know how to diagnose the problem.
Best of luck.
