Puppy excessively drooling, sweaty paws, and shivering.

My dog is 8 months, just a mixed breed, all of a sudden there was huge pile of drool underneath him while he was sleeping. He was also shaking and had sweaty paws.

All of the searches I have done say he's stressed....but I am not really sure what I would do about that. Also I have another older dog who takes medication for seizures.

I'm afraid that my puppy got into that and that might be the problem?

Hi Katie
While shaking and drooling can definitely indicate stress or anxiety in a dog, I personally think that this is unlikely to be the problem here.

As far as I can tell there's not been any change or situation to stress your pup out to that extreme, and the drooling began when he was sleeping. A much more likely scenario is that he got into something such as the seizure medication and this is a reaction to that.

Obviously this is a very serious situation and you need to have your pup examined by a vet right away. Ingesting medication, chemicals or anything that isn't prescribed for him or suitable for him to eat is dangerous and could cause serious problems, even death. I'd also strongly recommend that you call a poison control center and ask about the possible side effects of the other dog's medication. You can find relevant phone numbers on my Dog Poisoning page.

Please don't take any chances, get your pup to a vet right away. For information on human foodstuffs and other household items that are dangerous, or toxic, to dogs, please check out my Poisonous Foods page.

I wish you both the best of luck and hope your puppy makes a full recovery.
