Puppy has a lump after first shot

My puppy got her first shot 3 days ago and now she has a weird, non painful lump is this common?

Hi James
It's very common for puppies to get a lump, or knot, at the site of the actual injection. It doesn't really hurt them, after the first day or so at least and eventually disappears without treatment.

Sometimes this lump can be there for a few days or a week, sometimes much longer. But as long as it's not painful or red (which could indicate infection) there's usually nothing to worry about.

It's simply a reaction to the vaccination. This is the most common and simplest reaction to being vaccinated. There are other mild, moderate and severe reactions that some puppies suffer from, and it's always a good idea to know what the warning signs of a problem are. You can find out all about these towards the bottom of my Puppy Shots page.

Hope this puts your mind at rest. Best of luck with your puppy.
