Puppy has a red, swollen thing in her eye

this is what her eye looks like

My 2 month old puppies eye starting getting red around the bottom corner of her eye. The next day it was bigger and bulgy looking.

She has litter mates that she plays with. I don't know if it has gotten scratched. I don't really have the money right now to take her to the vet.

Is there anything I can do?

Hi Terri
Although I'm not a veterinarian, it looks as though she has an infection to me. Perhaps of the inner eyelid.

It could be that she's been scratched, or she could have got something in her eye that has got trapped there. Either way, I'm afraid there really isn't anything you can do yourself.

If an infection is left untreated it can cause serious damage, even blindness. I would think a simple course of anti-biotics would cure this problem and I doubt that would be very expensive.

I can only recommend that you take her to your vet so that he can treat it. The sooner you treat something like this the better, and it works out less expensive than it will be if complications set in.

Best of luck, hope your girl is doing better soon.

cherry eye

It is called "cherry eye," and it can actually be dangerous if it's allowed to stick out like that. Then, the gland stops producing the part of the tears it's responsible for. Sometimes they can be treated medically, and sometimes they need surgery. Tell your vet!
