(hibbing mn)
my puppy is peeing every 5 min what can i do to help her until Monday?
Hi Mary
Puppies DO wee a lot, but not normally every 5 minutes. If this is new behavior for her, and she's only passing a few drops at times, then chances are good that she has a UTI (urinary tract infection).
There's really nothing you can do to treat a canine UTI at home, chances are she needs antibiotics, and if possible I'd recommend that you get her to a 24 hour pet hospital or similar so that she can start getting treatment right away.
However, if you can't do that and must wait until tomorrow, then I can only suggest that you make sure she gets plenty of water to drink as this will help to dilute the urine. Yes, it will likely make her pee more (I know it's hard to imagine that!), but it will also make it less painful for her when she does.
You can give pups and dogs buffered aspirin that's been specifically designed for dogs (should be able to find this in a large pet store), or buffered CHILDREN'S aspirin. If you use the children's aspirin you will need to check with your a vet as to the dosage though.
Also, if she will drink Cranberry juice you can give her a little of that as it helps to neutralize the acid in the urine that causes the pain, and inhibit the growth of bacteria. But many dogs won't touch this!
Other than that she just needs a vet to check her out. Best of luck, hope she's doing much better soon.
