My puppy was getting close to being potty trained. He would stand by the back door and we would let him out and he would come in when he was done.
Now we have rainy weather so he does not want to go out.
I made him a covered area where he has already been eliminating. He had a good schedule. Now he peed twice in the house today. What can I do?
Hi
Puppies go through 'stages' and it's not unusual for a puppy who has been steadily progressing in his housetraining to 'regress' or take a few step backwards at times. It's just part of the developmental process.
If the weather is particularly wet or cold, that can also definitely be a factor as most pups don't want to be outside when they're uncomfortable.
Your best move is to just continue to be consistent in your training efforts, and even go back a bit yourself by confining the puppy more (using his crate or whatever method you used when you began to train him). Your aim should be to prevent him having the opportunity to eliminate indoors, thereby preventing this from becoming a habit.
With patience and consistency you will get over this 'hiccup'. Good luck.
