puppy pooping problem

by recar buenaventura
(philippines,q.c)

Hi,

My two weeks old pups is having a hard time to poops, even though she tried to squat and push it didn't came out.

What will i do to help her she lost her mom after giving birth.

Hi Recar
Although puppies don't really get constipated that often, it can happen in puppies who are being fed formula.

The momma dog usually stimulates the puppies to pee and poop by cleaning them, licking their bellies and bottoms. You can replicate this by gently rubbing these areas and their 'private parts' with a warm, slightly wet cloth after you've fed them.

Also, bottle fed pups sometimes don't eat enough and so it's important to try to get them to drink as much fluids as possible.

If you don't see any improvement in a day or so, please consult your veterinarian. There are options he can follow, such as medications or enemas, but these should only be given/prescribed by a veterinarian.

Best of luck with your puppies.
