puppy pooping

I have a 2 month old puppy, who i believe has not pooped all day, but he has eaten.

Do puppies poop a lot...is this something i should worry about?

Hi Maria
Puppies generally poop at least twice a day, often more, and at 8 weeks old they may need to pee every 30 minutes to an hour during the day.

However, if you've only just got your puppy, he is probably a bit stressed and homesick. During the first few days in their new home, puppies may seem a bit 'sad or lonely', they may lose their appetite, sleep more than usual etc. However, if they have periods of happy activity, aren't suffering from diarrhea or vomiting, and generally seem healthy, this is usually nothing to worry about.

If not pooping is the only concern you have about your pup, I don't think you need to worry too much at this point. Puppies do sometimes get constipated, but increasing their fluids and exercise is usually enough to get their bowels moving again.

I would expect your puppy will poop soon. Best of luck with him.

Canned Pumpkin is the key
by: Holly

I just got a 2 1/2 month old Shih Tzu and she also did not poo for a couple of days so I googled it and came across a post to give her a tablespoon of pumpkin in a can ( make sure you do not get the kind you make pie with that has all the spices) check the label to ensure it is only pumpkin. For my puppy it was a change in the food that caused the constipation. This worked like a charm and she loved it. But just make sure you are at home with them when you try this because it only takes a couple of hours to work. If you don't see it working after a couple of hours I would try a little more. I had to continue doing this for a couple of days to get her on schedule.

Hope this helps!
