Puppy poops in car

by Jami
(Elma, WA, USA)

My puppy is 12 weeks old. Every time he rides in the car which so far it hasn't been more than 2 miles at a time, he poops in the car.

Will he grow out of this and do I have to wait for that or is there something that I can give him so he is able to go with us in the car?

Hi Jami
You're puppy is probably doing this because he gets so stressed and anxious that he can't control his bowels.

He's only 12 weeks old and hasn't had much experience of car travel, so this isn't terribly unusual, although it causes obvious problems for you.

I'd recommend that you check out my Natural Health Products for Dogs and Natural Remedies for Dogs where you'll find anti-anxiety type remedies which can help with this.

If by any chance these don't help, talk to your vet about it as he may be able to prescribe something else.

Generally dogs tend to grow out of this sort of anxiety, and the more familiar he becomes with car travel the less stressful it will be for him.

Hope this helps, best of luck with your pup.
