A puppy licked my coffee mug. Can you get a serious illness such as rabies?

It would be very unlikely for you to get sick from a puppy licking your mug, or even your hands/face.

Theoretically it's possible of course, if the pup was already sick, but it's improbable. Puppies often have worms though, and some of these can be transmitted to people if you ingest their eggs.

Again it's unlikely, but possible.

Rabies is very rare here in the US in dogs, and unless this pup had been in contact with another animal who had Rabies I don't think you have anything to worry about in that respect.
