puppy shots

hi! First i want to thank you for my Puppy Pawprints E-zine, I love it, so informative and fun at the same time.

Now my question...

My little dachshund is 8 1/2 mon. We got her when she was 4 mon. 2 weeks later we gave her her first shot and the second 3 weeks after that. Her second shot was Nov. 11.

Due too many emergencies one after another her 3rd shot was never given to her. I have had many opinions on what to do such as start them all over to giving her the 2nd one again and then the third to just giving her the one she didn't get.

I think I feel more comfortable starting them over since we live in the country and she eats and chews everything she can find in and out of the yard.

Would really appreciate your advice. I am going to take your advice immediately. Thank you so very much. Gigi and my poop eating puppy Brandy

Hi Gigi
I'm so glad you find Puppy Pawprints useful, I have fun putting it together each month and it's nice to know that it's 'working'.

For your puppy's vaccinations, this is what I would suggest....

Get her two DHLPP shots, three weeks apart. You will also need to get her a Rabies shot and I'd recommend a Bordatella (Kennel Cough) shot also. If there is Lyme Disease in your part of the country, that vaccination would also be a good idea. Your own veterinarian will be able to give you info. on that.

I'd recommend you get started on that as soon as possible too.

If you follow the above, you should be fine. However, I have to make sure you understand that I'm not a veterinarian, and don't have veterinary experience, so what I'm recommending is based on my own personal experience and knowledge.

Always ask your own veterinarian's advice and if it conflicts with mine, I would go with what they recommend. They're the experts :o)

As you live out in the country, as do I, there's always the potential for Parvo, Rabies etc. and especially if you're puppy is one of the 'poop eating variety' then it's much better to be safe than sorry!

Hope this is helpful, if you have any further questions just let me know. Thanks again for your kind words too! Best of luck with Brandy.
